Faster Than
Every Beating Heart
The dual source CT enables physicians at Sarasota Memorial Health Care system to examine patients with elevated or irregular heart rates without having to administer beta blocker medication to reduce the heart rate before it can be seen clearly, since the motion of the beating heart can cause blurred images. This means reduced patient preparations time as medication
that typically takes more than 1 hour to take effect.
Also, patients who were not previously eligible for CT
exams because of existing conditions that preclude the use of beta blockers, such as patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema or other conditions that affect breathing
can now take advantage of the most advanced ct scanner in the
world at Sarasota Memorial's Institute for Advanced Medicine.
Expanded
Capabilities of the Dual-Source CT
The dual source is the most advanced CT technology available and provides anatomical detail not previously available on CT, giving us more information to make diagnoses and treatment decisions without invasive procedures. The speed of the system and reduction in patient preparation time enable us to examine patients more efficiently and conveniently.
CT physicians can also perform
simultaneous exams which allows them to obtain diverse
information about the anatomy in a single scan to enable more
accurate diagnoses. While the CT uses two xray sources and offers twice the imaging power, it subjects patients to as much as 50% less radiation exposure than most CT systems.
The Definition CT has enhanced capabilities not previously available from any type of diagnostic imaging technology, which are expected to lead to new breakthroughs in clinical research.
