Nursing Orientation at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System begins the day following housewide orientation, scheduled every third week. In this setting, new nurses are able to meet our Chief Nursing Officer and our Director of Education and Clinical Practice. Nursing's mission, vision and values, along with our patient care delivery model are presented. The 14 Forces of Magnetism are emphasized as the framework for the nursing standards of care.
Many resources are provided, and representatives from our medical staff, pharmacy, acute pain program, and wound care program present to the staff, just to name a few. This orientation program is dynamic and is intended to provide thenewly hired nurse with the information needed to do the job on their chosen unit.
New graduate nurses also spend time on the nurse preceptor unit prior to orientation in their assigned unit.
Following Nursing Orientation, staff attend computer based training class (CareVision/Sunrise Clinical Manager) and finish with precepted time orienting on their units.
