Sarasota Memorial “Home Care” Rated Among Best in Nation
Sarasota Memorial Hospital and its nurses have long been recognized among the best in the nation. But few may be aware of the highly skilled team of home care nurses, therapists and aides who work outside the hospital setting.
 This week, the health care system learned its Home Care team was named among the nation’s “2009 HomeCare Elite” – a group of top-performing home health agencies recognized for providing the best home care in the communities they serve.
Sarasota Memorial’s home health team works throughout Sarasota and surrounding communities, helping people recover from illness and injury and become more independent in the comfort of their own home or other residential setting. Sarasota Memorial Home Care was the only hospital-based home health agency in Southwest Florida to achieve the national designation.
“This is a significant accomplishment for a hospital-based agency and reflects the depth and breadth of specialized care our staff provides,” said Fay Williams, administrator of Sarasota Memorial Home Care’s 100-plus employees. “In addition to our regular home care clients, we often serve as the safety net for people with the most complex conditions and situations – patients who require extensive care and specialized skills, patients who are uninsured and those who have nowhere else to turn and little, if any, support at home.”
To receive the HomeCare Elite recognition, agencies must rank in the top 25 percent of providers in the country in patient outcomes, quality improvement and financial performance, said Nancy Buller, a senior director at OCS Home Care, an independent organization that monitors the home health industry to help consumers make informed choices when choosing home care providers.
