What to Expect During Your CT Exam
The dual
source Definition CT does not require any special preparations.
During the scan you will lie on a comfortable couch as it slowly
passes through an opening in the examination unit, commonly
referred to as a “gantry”. All you have to do is follow the
instructions given by the medical personnel in charge. You may,
for example, be asked to briefly hold your breath or not to move.
During the
exam, the system rotates an X-ray beam in a 360-degree arc,
scanning the body part being examined. Painless and uncomplicated,
this non-invasive procedure takes only about 15 to 30 seconds to
perform.
Following the
exam, a radiologist will analyze the detailed images produced and
send a report to your family doctor, who will discuss them with
you. A Word About Allergies
Sometimes,
depending on the body part being examined, a contrast agent is
needed to provide the best possible images. If necessary, it will
be administered immediately prior to the exam. And while most
patients easily tolerate the agent, it does contain iodine, which
can cause an allergic reaction. Talk to your doctor about possible
allergies prior to your exam.
