Accreditation and Recognition Our cancer care program is accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer – the highest level of accreditation awarded only to the best cancer care programs in the nation.
The scope and quality of services Sarasota Memorial offers earned accreditation with commendations by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Indeed, Sarasota Memorial's program received the highest possible score and ranks in the top 27 percent of the 1,178 approved cancer programs in the United States and Puerto Rico.
That’s important because patients who receive care at Commission on Cancer-endorsed programs are assured:
Comprehensive care offering a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment.
A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options available.
Information and access to cancer clinical trials, education and support.
Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care.
Lifelong patient follow-up through an award-winning Cancer Registry, a major component of an accredited cancer program.
As required by Florida law, our Cancer Registry captures a summary of diagnosis, treatment and status for cancer patients. The information is collected and evaluated to reveal trends and provide potentially lifesaving information on treatment, care and prevention for all types of cancer.
Patients are followed by the registry throughout their lifetime. You may receive communication from our cancer registry requesting follow-up information. Rest assured that confidentiality is maintained at all times and patients are never identified in reports. Magnet Nurses
Sarasota Memorial is one of only 67 hospitals in the United States designated a “Magnet Hospital” – the highest honor given for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center. The coveted award means patients at our hospital receive the very best nursing care. Oncology Certified Nurses
The Oncology Nursing Society, a national organization dedicated to promoting excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care, awarded Sarasota Memorial the 2000 “Employer of the Year Award” for demonstrating a deep commitment to advanced training and certification of our oncology nurses. More than 50 percent of our nurses hold certificates in the specialty of oncology nursing.
We are committed to providing the best patient care, and doing everything necessary to support our nurses in that effort. Superior cancer nursing care earned Sarasota Memorial the much coveted “Magnet” status for nursing excellence in 2003 and the Year 2000 Employer Recognition Award from the Oncology Nursing Society.
Results from the 2002 year-end patient satisfaction survey of Sarasota Memorial’s cancer patients were compared with those of 831 comparative hospitals across the nation by the independent Press-Ganey Association. A percentile rank of 99 means that 99 percent of the hospitals in our comparison group had lower scores than ours.
