The Center has a specialized inpatient unit dedicated entirely to diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
The four-bed unit provides around-the-clock monitoring of patients admitted for evaluation. Length of stay in the hospital may last from six hours to a week, depending on the patient’s unique needs and condition.
Because approximately half of people experiencing seizures do not have epilepsy, but suffer from other misdiagnosed, undiagnosed and often treatable conditions, the team evaluates patients to determine whether they suffer from epilepsy or some other seizure disorder, as well as conditions that might accompany seizures, such as stroke, unexplained loss of consciousness or confusion episodes.
