Since 1961, when Dr. David Giordano brought the first
endoscope to Sarasota, the hospital's Endoscopy Department has provided
quality, progressive care. The staff of specially trained physicians,
nurses, and technicians care for patients using state-of-the-art
technology.
Many Americans have gastrointestinal problems ranging from heartburn
to swallowing difficulties and cancer. Chances are that you will
experience some form of gastrointestinal distress during your lifetime.
Some of the procedures commonly used in Endoscopy to diagnose and
treat these problems include:
Colonoscopy
Gastroscopy
Endoscopic Retrograde
Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
Dilatations
Motility Studies
24 Hour Ph Monitoring
Laparoscopic Liver Biopsies
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
With improved images and the use of today's wide-screen TV's, video
scopes and conscious sedation, patients find the experience much
more comfortable than in the past.
The department is a self-contained unit, handling patients from admission
to discharge. The department offers service eight hours a day, six
days a week, to inpatients and outpatients. Services are available
on an on-call basis for emergencies, 24 hours a day, seven days a
week.
