Sarasota Memorial Hospital is accredited by the Florida Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Sarasota Memorial Hospital designates this educational activity for a maximum of one (1) AMA PRA category 1 Credit(s)tm . Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
In order to receive certification of completion, you must register by calling Terri levanti, CME Coordinator at (941) 917-5959 or email terri-levanti@smh.com.  (Please provide your full name, organization, mailing address, work and home telephone number, email address and fax number).

Payment of an annual fee of $50.00 is required if you wish to receive CME credit through SMH. Please make check payable to Sarasota Medical Foundation.

ATTENTION

Changes in CME at SMH

Over the last 10 years, the medical community’s approach to ongoing education has experienced dramatic change.  On-line offerings allow each of us to learn at teachable moments, when a particular patient problem prompts a search for new information.  We can also learn at a point of time most convenient: if you have time on your hands, CME is only a few clicks away.

Lately the push from our accrediting body, the FMA, is to have fewer, higher quality programs.  We are also asked to show the relevance of our programs to practice improvement.  The CME budget has also come under pressure, with significant resources needed to support the on-line education mission.

Due to these ongoing forces, the Medical Education Committee met and has decided to reduce the frequency of the Grand Rounds series to once monthly for July, August and September, and to reassess the frequency thereafter.  A coming communication will provide additional details on the dates of presentations, and other education opportunities available within the system.

I encourage you all to give us feedback on what you want to see happen in October.  We plan to work diligently for high quality programs for the slots available.

Consistent with our commitments to education and excellence at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the organization has partnered with the Graduate Education Foundation in offering our healthcare providers access to the CMElectures.org series of educational seminars.  We anticipate that you will find the lectures interesting, informative and clinically useful.

eeds TM
Electronic Education Documentation System

Internet Point of Care CME (POC) describes structured, self-directed, online learning by physicians on topics relevant to their clinical practice.  Learning for this activity is driven by a reflective process in which physicians must document their clinical question, the sources consulted and the application to practice.  Physicians conducting structured online searches on clinical topics may claim a half (0.5) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for documented completion.
