Eating Healthy for
Life
Comprehensive Weight Loss Program
The Eating Healthy for Life weight loss program
is a comprehensive
program that meets every week for 1-½ hours and includes a monthly
support/follow-up session. The program is designed and facilitated by
a Registered Dietitian, Physical
Therapist and Psychotherapist.
The sessions include the following
topics:
Nutrition Plan - Clients are weighed and
books are distributed. The initial class, Nutrition Plan, will
review the diet emphasizing commitment through planning & behavior
change. At the close of class the participants will understand &
recognize a recommended portion size, which foods are considered
carbohydrate, protein or fat. Clients will be provided with food
shopping lists and food journals.
Assignment includes: Maintaining a
food journal, as well as examining state of mind while eating. Fluid is
encouraged as well as increased vegetable intake.
Barriers & Triggers:
Clients are weighed, journal reviewed and questions answered. Initiate
session on Barriers & Triggers, which addresses the specific
behavior patterns we incorporate into our lives that lead to relapses
and overeating. Emphasis is placed on replacing food with a more
productive means of coping. Cognitive Behavioral Skills are used to
change behaviors that interfere with adhering to a healthy eating plan
Eating on the Run:
Clients are weighed and questions answered.
This class will focus on
dining out, fast food restaurants, holidays, and acquiring control in
challenging environments. Patients will also review restaurant
menus and discuss recipes.
Overview of Exercise:
Clients are weighed and questions answered: Overview of Exercise
and the role it plays in relieving stress, building muscle, burning
fat and expediting weight loss. Exercise’s role in disease prevention
as well. A Physical Therapist demonstrates exercises
that can be done at home. Exercise options provided including Water
Aerobics packet.
Program Review
The educators utilize food models,
visuals, as well as lecture to enhance the program. All
clients will receive a complete take-home manual. The program will
also include a monthly support group at which clients will be weighed,
questions answered and information shared. Patients are expected
to fill out weekly food journals and they are evaluated.
The Eating Healthy for Life comprehensive
