Community HEALTH EDUCATION
Caring for the community includes a healthy dose of education and prevention. Through community partnerships with businesses, religious congregations, schools and universities, social service agencies, civic organizations and others, Sarasota Memorial has established a strong community focus on health and wellness.
Classes & Special Events: Each year, Sarasota Memorial hosts community events to promote health and prevent illness, including health fairs, screenings, seminars and support groups. Browse our online health calendar each month for upcoming classes and programs.
Employee Assistance Program: EAP Sarasota is a free mental health counseling program available to employees of participating businesses in Sarasota County. Sarasota Memorial’s EAP counselors are trained to help with a wide range of individual and family problems. Click here to learn more.
Parish Nurse Program: Sarasota Memorial also works closely with local congregations as lead facilitator of the area’s Parish Nurse Program, a special partnership with the faith community that integrates faith and health in the daily life of local parishioners. Through education and personal health counseling, Sarasota Memorial helps provides the tools and expertise parish nurses need to identify early risk factors and educate parishioners about appropriate lifestyle choices within the context of their faith. For information about the Parish Nurse Program, call Mary Lanier, RN, at (941) 917-1769 or email her at mary-lanier@smh.com.
Corporate Volunteer Program: Made up of hundreds of hospital employees, Sarasota Memorial’s Corporate Volunteer Program places our employees where they’re needed when they’re needed – no job is too small or too large, whether it’s collecting school supplies and clothes for needy children; painting and repairing homes for the elderly and disabled; or cleaning up after a charity event for the underprivileged. Call Leigh Wilcox at (941) 917-6693 or email her at leigh-wilcox@smh.com for information.
Speaker's Bureau: Sarasota Memorial offers a variety of educational presentations and health resources to the community through its Speaker’s Bureau. Businesses, organizations, groups and schools throughout the community are welcome to request a qualified speaker to present on a variety of topics (see list below). Please email Meghann Ryan at meghann-ryan@smh.com or call (941) 917-6219 for information. Requests should be made at least 2-3 weeks in advance.
