Getting Back to Work: Work Injury Rehabilitation

Returning to work after a difficult illness or injury can be a challenge. Our occupational and physical therapists customize a program to make the transition as successful as possible.

Work Conditioning and Functional Capacity Evaluations

Patients participating in our injury Rehab program will be evaluated for:

  • Flexibility
  • Gait/Mobility
  • Posture
  • Reflexes
  • Sensation

A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) safely and objectively measures:

  • Repetitive lifting capacity at various levels
  • Repetitive push, pull, and carrying capacities
  • Hand grip strength
  • Tolerance for elevated work
  • Prolonged trunk flexion in sitting and standing
  • Prolonged trunk rotation in sitting and standing
  • Prolonged crawl, knee and sustained crouch positions
  • Repetitive squat
  • Tolerance for prolonged sitting and standing
  • Maximum walking, stairs and stepladder capacity
  • Balance Hand coordination

Results and recommendations are discussed with the patient and the referring physician before a program of rehabilitation is designed.

Work Conditioning provides individualized education, a complete exercise program and simulated work activities to help the participant safely return to work. Therapy can last two to six weeks and includes:

  • Assessment of a worker or job applicant to ensure a proper match between the requirements of the job and the person performing the tasks
  • Assessment of the workplace and tools to ensure correct ergonomics for injury prevention and/or modification for return to work
  • Training of workers and/or management for injury prevention, modified duty assignments, ergonomics and a variety of related topics
  • Selection, customization or design of technology for the worker, workplace or tools
  • Assisting disabled workers to return to the workplace, in compliance with A.D.A. regulations, including architectural accessibility
  • Custom design of seating and mobility aids
  • Augmentative and alternative communication and computer access
  • Ergonomic evaluations and worksite accessibility
  • Job performance monitoring and human performance analysis as it relates to new requirements on Musculoskeletal disorder
  • Product resources such as seating and ergonomic office equipment
  • Determination of essential job functions

A Pre-Work Screen may be requested by an employer to screen an individual for a particular job. While the evaluating therapist may determine whether the client can meet the job demands, it is the sole responsibility of the employer to make the hiring decision.
