Please
complete the call for abstracts form in its entirety. Abstract text
must be typed and should not exceed 250 words. We will accept
electronic submissions only using the form provided. Incomplete or
faxed submissions will not be considered for review.

Review Process,
Notification, and Acceptance
A blind
review process will be conducted the last two weeks of June based on
(1) significance and innovation, and (2) overall quality and program
balance. Only the lead author will receive notification of abstract
status. You will receive an accepted or rejected notification via
email on or around July 1st 2006, or possibly before.
Your acceptance to participate must be received within one week of
notification. Failure to do so will constitute a decline to present.
All authors listed on the original abstract will be listed in
program materials.
Registration
Presenters
are expected to register to attend the conference on the day of
their presentation and to pay for their own expenses associated with
the conference. Your completed registration form must be received on
or before June16, 2006. Failure to register by the cut-off date will
constitute a decline to present.
Guidelines for
Your Presentations
Poster
Presentations
Posters visually
identify programs or research projects by depicting concepts and
context at a glance. Authors will have the opportunity to discuss
materials and provide related handouts. The poster session will take
place during a .lunch from 12:00 noon –1:30 pm on Friday, Sept 15th,
in the Sarasota Memorial Auditorium, Waldemere Building. This will
encourage ample networking. Posters should be hung by the author on
the prepared stands between 9:00am and 9:30 am that day. The size of
the posters should be no larger than 4’ by 8’ and made to be hung
using push pins, which can be provided.
Tips to writing an Abstract

Follow directions provided in the Call for Abstracts!

The abstract must be well written; the clarity of the
writing mirrors your thinking.

Create an attractive, catchy title that captures the
essence of the study.

Choose verbs carefully; aim for passionate phrases using
concise language.

Write a good introductory paragraph which situates the
study historically.

Provide some concrete details of the study to entice the
reader to want to learn more.

List primary sources.
-
Historical research emphasizes conclusions.
-
Interweave research into today.
-
Have colleagues read the abstract before submission.

Registration Fees
Sarasota Memorial employees and students attend free; non-SMH, $50
non-refundable; A $10 late fee will be charged
after Sept 1.
