IF NO COMMUNICATION IS AVAILABLE then physicians should come to the hospital physician command center when road traveling is deemed to be safe. The Physician Command Team will help the relief physicians find their partners or physician they are relieving for report.
A TEAM (arrives on campus after the hospital calls a Lockdown for an eminent Hurricane):
The following physicians will be asked to participate as “A” team members and
proceed to the physician command center when an emergency is called:
Specialists: One physician in each specialty who is “on-call” for the Emergency Department that day/night.
Hospitalists:Two medical hospitalists will be in house, two outside for relief as “B” team.
One surgical hospitalist will be in house, one outside for relief as “B” team.
B TEAM (arrives after the Hurricane has passed and the Lockdown is lifted):
Rotations among physicians for primary care, if additional help is necessary after the storm, will be established by the Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff Elect and the Chief Medical Officer involving rotations from each of the primary care offices.
Specialists: One physician in each specialty who is “on-call” for the Emergency Department that day/night.
Hospitalists: One or Two medical hospitalists will be in house as the relief team. One surgical hospitalist will be in house.
WHEN TO COME TO THE HOSPITAL:
The keys, low lying mainland, and trailer parks will be evacuated when the Level I Evacuation is issued by the County Disaster Center. We can expect patients previously identified as high risk persons with special needs and pregnant women to start arriving at that time. The hospital will go on alert when this Evacuation is issued. A Lockdown may be eminent, at which time the physicians will be asked to make plans to come to the hospital before the roads are impassable. Immediate family members of physicians will be invited to come with the physician, animals will be allowed per the hospital hurricane pet policy. Stand by and stay tuned via TV, Radio and Internet at www.smh.com for updates.

Per staffing |
- We will request that the groups provide SMHCS the physician on-call list should we go into hurricane mode, as a service to the community. These lists will be faxed to the Director, Medical Staff Services at (941) 917-7255.
- Ask these physicians to provide their cell/home phone number and their answering service name and phone number.
- Immediate family members will be invited to come with the physician, animals will be allowed per the hospital hurricane policy.
- In most specialties only one or two physicians will be needed. Due to the unpredictability of vacations the exact members from each group will be requested at the time of the evacuation but a commitment of the on-call person for each group will be requested.
